The Ultimate Mixtape: A Musical Time Capsule Playlist, Vol. 1

The Ultimate Mixtape: A Musical Time Capsule Playlist, Vol. 1 My Weekly Mixtape

This week, to celebrate the 100th episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I am creating “The Ultimate Mixtape” along with 65 guest curators, all of which were either previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show or one of the amazing Patreon Mixtapers.

And, because I simply couldn’t celebrate 100 episodes in one sitting, this week will consist of three brand-new episodes!

Now, to create this Ultimate Mixtape, I started by asking everyone the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why?

Now, I’m not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective!

At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you’re listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!!

This ep. Includes the first 20 song choices! Stay tuned for Volume’s 2 & 3 later this week, to get the full experience!

  1. Seeker here. Holy cow. As a general (Pantheon) listener, I feel so ridiculously honoured to have been included on this 100th episode. Music and making music mixes have been an important part of my life since the mid-1970s. So I latched on hard to this podcast from day one. Thanks, Brian, for a brilliant couple of years. Your love and knowledge of music shines through and is honestly mind-blowing. I love your down-to-earth passion, and I’ve learned so much. Man I got the Angels listed along with The Beatles, Maiden, Sabbath, The Fooies (as the Foo Fighters are known in Australia), G’N’R, etc… What a great way to start the year.

  2. Seeker here. Oh my god, I can’t get over the fact that I was included in the first part of this celebration of this amazing podcast. I am beyond honoured. Brian, your infectious passion and enthusiasm for music is unparalleled. It’s such an enjoyable time listening to you and your guests celebrate music and the power of a well-crafted song mix. I learn things all the time, and enjoy being introduced to new musical genres, let alone new songs. Congratulations on making 100 episodes. I’m looking forward to many, many more.

    • Thank you so, so much for the kind words Seeker, and it means so much to me that you listen and support the show as much as you do! I couldn’t possibly do this without the conversation being 2-way with the fellow mixtapers like me, so I’m extremely grateful and thankful that you’re a part of it! 🙏🏼🤘🏼
